Painted by Scorsese in bold, confident strokes,
Shutter Island doesn't quite satisfy despite a bunch of good actors, a suitably shadowy cinematographic palette, and a convincing period setting - the trimmings are all there, but the plot is too familiar, as is the way it unfolds.
